MHP(Medilead Healthcare Panel)

Top Services MHP

MHP is Medilead’s proprietary database and aims to be an organic database that provides data to support the health of all people.
As a service that embodies our company philosophy of leading happy lives through the future of healthcare, we provide meaningful information that cannot be obtained from existing real-world data or primary research alone.
MHP is currently utilized by many of our clients for research and creation of medical literature.

What is MHP?

One of the largest healthcare databases in Japan

MHP is a collection of proprietary information that covers symptoms on both the disease and pre-disease levels and is one of Japan’s largest healthcare databases. The proprietary data consists of basic respondent information in addition to specific details such as QOL (EQ-5D), adherence status, health literacy, loss of productivity, and burden of care. This allows our clients to utilize research results from a multitude of perspectives to suit their needs. In addition, MHP has information on approximately 400,000 panel members at any given time, making it easy to conduct additional research.

The two phases of MHP

MHP consists of two phases based on the stage of research.

Among the up to 4.2 million survey panelists Medilead has access to, information from roughly 400,000 respondents is stored in the database.

A deep-dive research is done with respondents from Phase 1 who answered that they have been hospitalized/visited the hospital regularly in the past year. More in-depth information can be gathered from approximately 100,000 respondents in this phase.

Sample Questions

  • Basic demographic information (gender, age, area of residence, marital status, education, personal & household income)

  • Occupation (profession, industry, certifications, specific medical certifications, details about medical field of work)

  • Symptoms of concern

  • Symptoms/diseases that led to hospitalization or regular hospital visits in the past year (personally)

  • Major diseases (among the symptoms/diseases that led to hospitalization or regular hospital visits in the past year)

  • Various criteria (loss of productivity, QOL, health-literacy, burden of care, etc.)

  • Basic demographic information (gender, age, area of residence, marital status, children, education, personal & household income)

  • Occupation (profession, industry, certifications, specific medical certifications, details about medical field of work)

  • Degree of understanding about major disease from surrounding people

  • Details regarding treatments for major disease (frequency of hospital visits, time of diagnosis, level of treatment satisfaction, cause/situation that led to visiting the hospital (will ask for specifics if cause is related to symptoms))

  • Treatment history for major disease (medical treatment (oral/topical/injection))
    Non-medical treatment (counseling/rehabilitation, etc.)
(Including both past and current treatments)

  • Various criteria (loss of productivity due to major disease, adherence to treatment)

  • Categories related to treatment needs (priorities, level of satisfaction)

What is unique about MHP?

Understanding patient needs through “real” voices

Research conducted via MHP is unique in that it not only tracks numerical information such as hospitalizations/hospital visits, but also deep dives into the needs of patients. By gathering the "real voices" of patients on various criteria such as treatment satisfaction and adherence status, we can understand their specific needs—what they want from their medical care and what factors are important to them during treatment.

Easily identify target respondents and deep dive with additional research

MHP can be used in two main ways. The first is by extracting and processing the data gained from phases 1 and 2 for immediate analysis.
The second is to conduct additional research by selecting specific respondents from the MHP proprietary panel. MHP has already conducted extensive interviews on more than 700 symptoms and diseases, including 306 designated intractable diseases, making it possible to approach patients more efficiently. The costs required to identify respondents and conduct additional surveys are often more reasonable compared to cases where everything must be built from scratch.
Because you can choose whether to use data from the MHP database, conduct additional research, or both, MHP can be fully utilized regardless of the scale of the research.

IRB approval means MHP can be used in clinical trials, epidemiological studies, and dissertation writing

As a cohort study, MHP conducts research with approval from the IRB (ethical review board). MHP meets all IRB standards, as is often required for epidemiological research and dissertation preparation, so you can leverage the information with confidence. MHP has been used on numerous occasions for dissertation writing and the creation of other medical literature.
